I laughed and belittled my “Rough Guide” to London project, this city has that effect on you. However, begrudgingly I left off soon to rediscovered all the little gems I had been too busy to visit and some found some new ones too!
I’ve known about London Trimmings for some time now, but never had the time to go see. Their website is below par, confusing and difficult to navigate, but I discovered why. 2 rooms filled from floor to ceiling with YKKs zips of any length / colours, buckles in their thousands, threads, wool, buttons, ribbons, embellishments, trimmings GALORE. Geek out!
My visit was made all the more cooler when the proprietor agreed to let me photograph the store, enthusiastically discussed with me, his trade openly and went on to show me a photograph of him with Kanye West. (Embarrassingly, I didn’t recognise Kanye West…) Apparently he was there shopping for his collection this season. Anyway, he told me about how he had to open his business to retail as the manufacturing trades are dying in Britain, sad for some, but yay for us! The prices here are reasonable (wholesale is even better) and the range makes it well worth a visit :D

Super atmospheric. Brocades and Pastels dip-dyeing. Amazing lace & hand work.
Backstage Sass and Bide Spring/Summer 2012.
Sorry for the camera phone quality. Must remember to bring a better compact.
